Turn recovery notifications on or off

Control Good alerts when a notifiable failed check passes again.

Recovery notifications tell you when a check that was failing passes again. They are useful when you want confirmation that a repair is visible from the same computer that runs TechDash.

Change the setting

  1. Open Notifications.
  2. Find Notify when a check recovers.
  3. Set it to On to send qualifying recovery messages, or Off to silence them.

The default is On. Changes are saved immediately.

What counts as a recovery

For a page check, TechDash detects a recovery when the result changes from fail to pass. For website-level findings such as site resources, SSL, RDAP, DNS, or Google Search Console checks, TechDash detects that a previously open notifiable issue is no longer present.

The recovery setting applies only to checks that are eligible for notifications:

  • Built-in Warning and Critical issues can produce recovery notifications.
  • Built-in Advisory issues do not notify when they fail, so they do not send recovery notifications.
  • Custom Checks use their own Notify option. A custom rule can produce a recovery when Notify is enabled, including one configured with Advisory severity.

A recovery message is shown as Good. It does not create a new Advisory, Warning, or Critical incident. It reports the transition back to a passing state.

The failed result does not need to have reached every channel successfully for TechDash to detect the later recovery. For example, a webhook could have been offline during the failure but available again when the pass occurs.

Channel controls still apply

Turning Notify when a check recovers On does not override channel settings.

  • Desktop recovery banners require Desktop notifications to be On globally and Desktop to be On for the page.
  • Slack, Microsoft Teams, and Discord recoveries require a webhook URL in Notifications and the corresponding page toggle under Notify.
  • TechDash must be running when the passing check completes.

For a sitewide issue, TechDash uses the channel controls on the monitored / page when available. If there is no monitored root page, it uses the first monitored page for the website.

Ignored checks are excluded from Incidents and notification detection. Removing an ignore rule does not itself send a recovery. A later check must run and produce a qualifying transition.

What happens when recovery alerts are Off

TechDash still updates the incident state when a check passes. The recovered problem disappears from the open Incidents view according to normal incident behavior, but no desktop or webhook recovery message is sent.

Failure and escalation alerts continue normally. Use Off when you want notification channels reserved for new problems and worsening severity.

The setting is global, not per channel and not per page. You cannot currently enable recovery messages for Slack while disabling them only for Desktop. Use the channel's global or page toggle if you need to suppress all notifications, including failures and recoveries, for that route.

If a recovery notification is missing

Confirm:

  1. Notify when a check recovers was On when the passing result completed.
  2. The original check was eligible to notify.
  3. The relevant global channel and page toggle are enabled.
  4. The check was not ignored.
  5. TechDash was running and the check actually completed.

Use Send test to verify the channel separately. A test does not exercise recovery detection or prove that the previous and current check states form a recovery.
