Fix TechDash startup and desktop-process errors

Diagnose a stuck start screen or a failure to connect to the desktop app.

Last checked 21 August 2026

TechDash briefly shows Starting TechDash while it prepares your local data, settings, and license state. If that screen does not finish or an error appears, restart the complete app before changing files or reinstalling anything.

Record what you can see

Copy the complete message exactly. Common visible states include:

  • Starting TechDash remains on screen and the app does not become ready.
  • TechDash failed to connect to the desktop process. appears because the window could not communicate with the rest of the app.
  • A different message identifies a settings, license, data, or startup problem.
  • The window closes completely.

Do not shorten every state to "TechDash crashed." The exact wording helps identify which part of startup failed.

If the window closes, look for the TechDash tray icon. Record whether it remains and note the approximate time. Do not repeatedly click the app icon because TechDash normally uses one running app instance.

Restart TechDash completely

  1. Quit TechDash, including the copy that continues running in the tray.
  2. On macOS, select Quit TechDash from the tray or application menu. On Windows or Linux, select Quit TechDash from the tray.
  3. Wait until the tray icon disappears.
  4. Open the installed app from Applications, the Start menu, or your normal Linux application launcher.
  5. Allow that startup attempt to finish.
  6. If the same problem remains, restart the computer and try once more.

The restart succeeded when TechDash opens past Starting TechDash, shows its normal sidebar and pages, and does not return the connection error.

Check the installation and computer

If startup still fails, confirm:

  • You installed the normal build for this operating system and computer architecture.
  • You are opening the installed app, not a copied file from inside an installer or download folder.
  • Security software has not quarantined or blocked part of TechDash.
  • The signed-in operating-system user can access their normal application-data folder.
  • The disk has enough free space for local monitoring data, temporary files, and screenshots.
  • A backup or sync tool is not replacing TechDash data while the app starts.

If the problem began immediately after an update, record the old and new versions if known. Do not repeatedly install older releases over the same local data. A newer app may have updated that data in ways an older app does not understand.

Do not remove local data to test startup

Do not delete, rename, replace, or edit the TechDash database, its related files, the TechDash secret-storage file, or the website data directory. Removing only some of these items can lose monitoring history, prevent saved credentials from working, or make diagnosis harder.

There is no supported repair or rebuild button for this situation. If TechDash cannot open, do not manually remove website rows or folders. Preserve the existing files until support has reviewed the startup evidence.

Collect evidence if it still fails

Record:

  • The complete visible message and a screenshot with no credentials
  • The TechDash version, if known
  • The operating system and version
  • Apple silicon, Intel, x64, or arm64, if known
  • Whether the tray icon remains
  • The approximate failure time and time zone
  • Whether the problem followed an app update, operating-system update, security-software action, restore, or power loss
  • Whether a complete computer restart changed the result

If TechDash opens after the restart, find Current version in Settings > Check for Updates and Platform in Settings > About.

Do not send the database, secret-storage file, license key, Google tokens, Basic Authentication credentials, webhook URLs, or raw crash dumps through ordinary messages.

Open Help & Support

Select Help & Support at the bottom of the TechDash sidebar if the app opens. It opens https://techdash.com/support in your default browser. If the app does not open, visit that address directly.

The troubleshooting process is complete when TechDash opens normally after the restart, or when you have preserved the local data and gathered the exact startup evidence needed for the next support step.
