Delete a website and its local data

Permanently remove a website, records, screenshot, icon, and stored page files.

Last checked 21 August 2026

Delete a website only when it should no longer exist in this TechDash installation. Deletion removes its database records and files from this computer and cannot be undone in the app. Use Pause Monitoring if you may need its setup or history later.

Delete the website

  1. Open Websites.
  2. Open the correct website card's context menu.
  3. Select Delete Website.
  4. In the Delete website confirmation, check both the display name and hostname.
  5. Select Delete website.

TechDash confirms that the hostname was deleted and removes the card from Websites. Select Cancel if either identity in the confirmation is not the website you intended to remove.

What deletion removes

TechDash removes the website row and its related local data, including:

  • Monitored page rows and their stored check results.
  • Open and historical incident records tied to the website.
  • Custom checks and site-resource records.
  • SSL, domain, and DNS lookup data.
  • Google Search Console connection and stored metrics for the website.
  • Health-report history and saved issue actions for the website.
  • The website's local file directory, including screenshots, icon, and stored page files.

The confirmation specifically mentions the screenshot and icon, but they are not the only data removed.

What deletion does not do

Deleting a website from TechDash does not:

  • Delete, unpublish, or modify the live website.
  • Remove pages from a CMS or search engine.
  • Revoke your TechDash license.
  • Unlink this computer from the licensed account.
  • Delete unrelated websites in the portfolio.
  • Delete the underlying Google Search Console property from Google.

Choose Pause for temporary stops

Pause Monitoring keeps the website, pages, settings, incidents, history, Search Console connection, screenshot, and icon. Scheduled work stops until you select Unpause Monitoring.

Delete instead when the website was added by mistake, belongs to a former client whose local data must be removed, or has been replaced by a different portfolio entry and its old history is no longer needed.

Before deleting

Consider these checks:

  1. Confirm whether anyone still needs the incident or check history.
  2. Record any custom-check definitions you will need elsewhere.
  3. Confirm whether the Search Console connection or imported page list will need to be recreated.
  4. Check the hostname carefully when several cards use similar display names.
  5. Pause first if you are uncertain. You can review the retained data and delete later.

There is no recycle bin or restore action. Adding the same hostname again creates a new website entry and new monitoring history; it does not reconnect the deleted records.

If deletion fails or the card remains

  • Read any error toast. The website may already have been removed by another action.
  • Wait briefly for the website list to receive the removal update.
  • Confirm that you selected the destructive Delete website button in the confirmation, not Cancel.
  • If the card has disappeared, deletion completed even if an older website page is still open. That page will show Website not found when it refreshes.
  • Do not manually delete only the screenshot or icon files. Use the website action so database records and the local directory are removed together.

If the card remains after reopening Websites, or deletion repeatedly shows an error, open Help & Support. Include the TechDash version, operating system, website display name and hostname, exact error, whether the confirmation closed, and whether the card remains after a full app restart.
