Turn crash-report uploads on or off
Control whether packaged TechDash uploads crash reports after the app crashes.
Last checked 21 August 2026
Change the setting
- Open Settings.
- Scroll to Privacy.
- Find Send crash reports.
- Select the toggle so it shows On or Off.
The change is saved immediately. There is no separate Save button and no per-crash confirmation.
What On means
On allows a packaged TechDash installation to upload a crash report after the desktop app itself crashes. The current default is On when no earlier preference has been saved.
A crash report is debugging evidence rather than a normal activity report. It can include limited portions of memory from the failed app component, so fragments of URLs, error text, interface content, or other strings in use at the time may be present. It also includes technical metadata such as app version, platform, architecture, and which part of the app failed.
TechDash does not attach the crawl database, stored page HTML directory, screenshots, or full settings folder to the crash upload. However, the possibility of memory fragments is important when deciding whether to consent.
When the setting is On, packaged TechDash can send the report directly to TechDash without asking you to sign in. Uploads may be compressed and rate-limited by the crash-reporting facility.
What Off means
Off prevents future crash reports from being uploaded. Choose Off if your privacy requirements do not allow potential memory content to leave the computer.
Turning the setting Off:
- Does not stop page or site monitoring
- Does not delete local crash files that may already exist on this computer
- Does not recall or delete a report that was already uploaded
- Does not delete
TechDash.sqlite, screenshots, HTML, incidents, or settings - Does not disable ordinary error messages in the interface
TechDash does not currently provide an in-app list of local crash files, submitted report IDs, or a delete-previous-uploads action. There is no verified customer process for identifying or deleting one specific uploaded report. The app also does not display a fixed server retention period, so ask TechDash support for the current general retention policy if that period affects your decision. Do not send a license key or secret-storage file.
Confirm the saved state
Return to Settings > Privacy and check the text displayed in the toggle. On and Off are the authoritative visible states. Restarting TechDash should preserve the selection because it is stored in the local settings database.
If the value does not persist:
- Quit TechDash from the tray and reopen it.
- Confirm the app can finish Starting TechDash and other settings persist.
- Record the exact app version and Platform from Settings.
- Contact support with the visible behavior. Do not edit the settings database manually.
If an expected upload is missing
For a normal packaged installation, confirm that Send crash reports was On before the crash and that the computer had network access. The setting permits uploads, but it does not confirm that a particular report reached TechDash.
A missing upload does not prove that no crash occurred. The process can fail before a submission completes, the network can be unavailable, or the service can reject or defer the upload. Keep the exact time and visible symptoms for the support request.
