Move your license to another computer
Release the current device binding and activate the same TechDash license on another computer.
Last checked 21 August 2026
Moving a TechDash license has two parts: release the existing device binding, then activate the same email and key on the new installation. Activation does not automatically take the license from the previous computer.
Have the original license email and key available before releasing the old computer. Moving the license does not copy the old installation's data.
If you can use the old computer
- Open TechDash on the old computer.
- Open Settings and find the License card.
- Select Unlink license from this device.
- In Unlink License, select Unlink license.
- Wait for Activate TechDash to appear. This confirms that the local license was cleared.
- Install and open TechDash on the new computer.
- Enter the original license email and key.
- Select Activate license.
The expected result on the old computer is Activate TechDash. This confirms that TechDash cleared the local license after releasing it.
If TechDash reports that the computer is offline, Wi-Fi sign-in is required, or the license service cannot be reached, fix the connection and retry. The old license remains in place when the release cannot complete, so do not assume it is available on the new computer.
If you cannot use the old computer
Open techdash.com/account and sign in to the account associated with the license. Locate the license and its assigned device, then complete the account action that revokes or releases that device. The account site is maintained separately from the desktop app, so this guide does not assume its current navigation or button wording.
Confirm that the license no longer has a device assigned. Then:
- Install and open TechDash on the new computer.
- On Activate TechDash, enter the original Email and License key.
- Select Activate license.
The expected result is that TechDash opens on the new computer. If you cannot release the device through the account, open Help & Support and use the support options shown there. Include the licensed email and a description of the unavailable computer. Do not send the full license key in an unsecured message.
Important data limitation
Moving the license moves activation rights only. It does not move:
- websites or monitored pages;
- crawl history or incidents;
- stored HTML and screenshots;
- app, website, notification, or custom-check settings;
- webhook configuration;
- the Google Search Console connection.
TechDash stores this information locally on each computer. The old computer's data is not remotely deleted, and the new installation starts with its own local database. Set up the required websites and integrations again on the new computer.
Do not assume uninstalling TechDash on the old computer releases the license. Use Unlink license from this device or the account revoke action first.
The previous installation cannot receive a remote release while offline. When it later reconnects and validates its license, it locks and stops monitoring. Its local data remains on that computer.
If the new computer says the license is in use
This license is already in use on another computer. Unlink it there, or revoke it at techdash.com/account, then activate it here. means the service still considers another installation active.
- Confirm that the old installation reached Activate TechDash, or that the account shows no assigned device.
- Confirm that the email and key on the new computer belong to the license you released.
- Retry Activate license on a stable connection.
If the account still shows the old device, complete the release there or use Help & Support. Do not repeatedly reinstall TechDash. A reinstall does not clear an existing assignment.
Do not use Replace license on the old computer as a substitute for unlinking. It changes which key that installation uses but does not release the earlier key.
Updates on the new computer
The updates and support period belongs to the license, not the old computer. After activation, open Settings, find Check for Updates, and select Check for updates.
TechDash can offer a newer release only when the license owns it and a matching installer exists for the new computer's operating system and processor architecture. An ended updates period does not prevent the move. It only limits access to releases published later.
For macOS, the browser installer is a DMG. For Windows, it is a setup executable. Linux uses the matching .deb or .rpm package and does not install updates inside TechDash.
If you move the license back
Release it from the new computer before activating it on the old one. Only one installation can hold the binding at a time, regardless of which physical computer held it previously.
