Revoke a device from your TechDash account
Release a TechDash license remotely when you cannot unlink the bound computer.
Last checked 21 August 2026
Use remote revocation when the computer currently holding the license is lost, damaged, replaced, or otherwise unavailable. The goal is to release that computer so the same license email and key can be activated elsewhere.
If you still have the licensed computer, unlinking from TechDash Settings is the more direct route because it releases the server binding and locks that installation immediately.
Before you revoke
Make sure you have:
- access to the TechDash account associated with the license;
- the licensed email and license key;
- the correct license identified if the account contains more than one;
- accepted that remote revocation does not copy or delete local TechDash data.
Do not revoke a device merely to refresh an update or fix a temporary connection problem. Revocation is for releasing the one-computer assignment.
Release the device from your account
- Open techdash.com/account.
- Sign in to the account associated with the license.
- Locate the intended license and the computer currently assigned to it.
- Use the account action that revokes or releases that device.
- Complete any confirmation shown.
- Confirm that the license no longer has a device assigned.
The account website is maintained separately from the desktop repository. Its navigation and control wording can change, so this guide does not claim an exact web label. The successful outcome is that the old device is no longer assigned and the license is available for activation.
If you cannot find the license, the device details are unclear, or the release does not complete, stop before changing another license. Open Help & Support and use the support options available there. Include the licensed email and a description of the old computer, but do not send the full license key in an unsecured message.
Activate on the replacement computer
After the account shows no assigned device:
- Install and open TechDash on the computer you want to use.
- On Activate TechDash, enter the same Email and License key.
- Select Activate license.
The expected result is that TechDash opens its main app on the replacement computer. Set up the websites, monitored pages, notifications, and integrations required there.
If activation shows:
This license is already in use on another computer. Unlink it there, or revoke it at techdash.com/account, then activate it here.
return to the account and confirm that you released the same license whose email and key you entered. Allow the account action to finish, then retry Activate license on a stable connection. Reinstalling TechDash does not clear the assignment.
When to unlink instead
If the old computer is available:
- Open Settings.
- Find the License card.
- Select Unlink license from this device.
- In Unlink License, select Unlink license.
The expected result is Activate TechDash on the old computer. If the service cannot be reached, the local license stays in place so you can retry safely.
What happens on the old computer
Remote revocation changes authorization for the license. It does not:
- uninstall TechDash from the old computer;
- remotely erase websites, crawl history, incidents, HTML, screenshots, settings, or credentials;
- copy any of that data to the new computer;
- cancel the license or shorten its updates and support period;
- immediately notify an old computer that remains offline.
While online, the old installation periodically validates its license. When it receives the changed state, TechDash locks and monitoring and queued work stop. The local data remains on that computer.
An offline old computer cannot receive the change until it reconnects. This does not authorize two active installations. Do not try to continue using both.
If the old computer comes back online
If you want to use the old computer again, first release the license from the replacement computer:
- Open Settings on the replacement computer.
- Find the License card.
- Select Unlink license from this device.
- In Unlink License, select Unlink license.
- Open the old installation and complete Activate TechDash again.
Only one installation can hold the license at a time.
Revocation does not move data
TechDash stores its operational data locally. Revoking and reactivating transfers the right to use the license, not the database. The replacement installation starts separately. If files remain accessible on the old computer, do not assume copying its application folder is a supported migration method.
