Unlink your license from the current computer

Release this computer's license binding safely from TechDash Settings.

Last checked 20 August 2026

Unlinking releases this computer's server-side license binding so the same email and key can be activated elsewhere. It also clears the local license record, locks this TechDash installation, and stops monitoring on this computer.

Use unlink when you can still open the licensed computer. If the computer is unavailable, revoke its device from your TechDash account instead.

Unlink the license

  1. Open Settings.
  2. Find the License card.
  3. Select Unlink license from this device.
  4. Read the Unlink License confirmation.
  5. Select Unlink license.
  6. Wait for TechDash to return to Activate TechDash.

TechDash contacts the license service before changing the local record. The computer must be online and past any public Wi-Fi or hotel sign-in page.

What happens next

  • The server binding is cleared when this computer is the currently bound device.
  • The local license record is cleared.
  • TechDash returns to Activate TechDash.
  • Page checks, lookups, site-resource work, brand refresh, and Search Console queues stop.
  • The same email and key can be activated on another computer.

Unlinking does not delete the local crawl database, page HTML, screenshots, website settings, incidents, or Search Console data. Those files remain on this computer, but TechDash stays locked until a license is activated again.

Unlinking also does not move that data to another computer. Activating the same key on a new installation transfers the right to run TechDash, not the old installation's local content.

If unlink fails

TechDash intentionally keeps the local license when it cannot obtain an authoritative response:

  • This computer is offline. Connect to the internet to unlink this license. Restore the connection and retry.
  • Wi-Fi sign-in is required before TechDash can unlink this license. Complete the network sign-in in a browser first.
  • Could not reach the license server. Try again when the connection is stable. Wait for a temporary network, server, or rate-limit problem to clear.

Do not repeatedly select Unlink license during a service problem. Because the local record remains, monitoring can continue until a successful or authoritative unlink result is received.

If the license service reports that a different device now owns the binding, TechDash still clears this installation's local license. This computer no longer has a binding to release. Review the active device at https://techdash.com/account.

Activate elsewhere

After Activate TechDash appears on the old computer:

  1. Install TechDash on the new computer.
  2. Enter the same license email and key.
  3. Select Activate license.

If the new computer says the license is already in use, the release did not complete or a different device is bound. Check the TechDash account before retrying.

Use another license on this computer

After unlinking, you can activate either the original license or a different license on this computer. If your goal is only to switch to a different key while keeping the old key bound, use Replace license instead. Be aware that replacing a license does not release the old key's remote binding.

If you no longer have this computer

Open https://techdash.com/account, find the bound device, and use Revoke this device. Remote revocation clears the server binding, but it cannot delete the old computer's local data. The old installation locks when it next receives the revoked result while online.
