Understand license access, updates, and support dates

Distinguish the permanent TechDash license from its time-limited updates and support term.

Your TechDash license does not expire. Software updates and support are included for 12 months from purchase, then can be extended by renewal. The permanent license and the dated updates term control different parts of the product.

License access

The bound computer remains licensed after the Updates and support date. TechDash stays unlocked and continues monitoring. An ended date is not a license error and does not require renewal to keep using an already licensed version.

The one-computer limit still applies. You can unlink or revoke the device and activate the license elsewhere.

Updates and support

The License card shows Updates and support as either Included until [date] or Ended [date]. The Check for Updates card shows a related License updates badge.

Release ownership is determined by the release's immutable publication date. A license owns the newest published release whose publication date is on or before its updates and support date. The download date does not have to be within the term.

After the term ends:

  • Monitoring continues.
  • Installers for owned releases remain available for later download when a matching file exists.
  • Releases published later require renewal.
  • TechDash checks for updates less frequently, about every seven days instead of daily.
  • A renewal action appears only when a newer ineligible release exists.

An installer uploaded as a draft during the term but released after the term is not owned based on its upload date. Customer eligibility follows the date the release was actually published.

Current, latest, and owned versions

The update card can show three different concepts:

  • Current version: installed on this computer.
  • Latest published: newest TechDash release overall.
  • Newest installer you own: newest release published within this license's entitlement.

For example, suppose this computer runs version 1.2.0, version 1.4.0 is the latest published release, and version 1.3.0 is the newest release published before the license's date. The card can show 1.4.0 as Latest published and 1.3.0 as Newest installer you own. TechDash may offer 1.3.0 if the correct installer is published for this computer.

TechDash does not offer a downgrade. If the newest owned version is the same as or older than Current version, no owned installer action appears.

Installer availability

Owning a release does not guarantee that every installer file exists. The update must have a matching file for the operating system and processor architecture. Linux also needs the detected .deb or .rpm package.

Packaged macOS and Windows builds can download in-app apply files when they are published. The action becomes Restart and install after the file is ready. Download installer remains the browser fallback. Linux always uses Download installer and never applies an update in the app.

Daily license checks

License validation and update eligibility are related but separate:

  • About once every 24 hours while online, license validation confirms that this installation still owns the device binding and refreshes the updates date after renewal.
  • The update service authenticates the same bound device and decides which published release the license owns.
  • While updates are included, automatic update checks are due about daily. After the date ends, they are due about every seven days.

A temporary license or update-server failure does not end an already validated license. An authoritative invalid, revoked, or different-device result can lock it.

Renewing

Renewal is needed for releases published after the current updates and support date and for continued support. An early renewal extends from the existing end date. A late renewal starts from the successful renewal payment time.

After renewing, open Settings > Check for Updates and select Check for updates. The update response can immediately show the current entitlement date, eligible release, and installer offer. TechDash refreshes the separate license record only when validation is due, about 24 hours after the previous validation, so the License updates state can remain Not included until then even while the adjacent date reflects the update response.
