Check for TechDash updates

Check for a newer TechDash release and understand whether your license owns it.

Use Settings > Check for Updates to compare the installed version with the latest published release and the newest installer your license owns. A published release is not necessarily available to every license or every computer.

Run a check

  1. Open Settings.
  2. Open the Check for Updates card.
  3. Select Check for updates.
  4. Wait for Latest published to change from Checking to a version or status message.

Opening the Settings page also starts a check. Help > Check for Updates opens the same update area. A manual check requests current information even if the normal automatic-check interval has not passed, but it still respects any temporary server wait period.

Read the result

  • Current version is the TechDash version running on this computer.
  • Latest published is the newest released version overall. Draft or unreleased builds do not appear.
  • Newest installer you own appears when the newest release included with your license is different from Latest published.
  • License updates shows Included or Not included, plus the date associated with the updates term.
  • Release notes may appear below Latest published when an owned update is offered.

The update service uses the release's original publication date to decide ownership. If it was published on or before your updates and support date, your license keeps access to that release even after the date passes. Downloading it later does not change ownership.

Understand the result

  • If Current version and Latest published match, TechDash is up to date.
  • If Newest installer you own is newer than Current version, TechDash can offer it when a matching installer has been published for your operating system, processor architecture, and Linux package type where applicable.
  • If Latest published is newer than Newest installer you own, that later release needs a renewed updates term.
  • If an owned version is newer but no button appears, the release may not yet have a matching installer for this computer.
  • TechDash never offers a downgrade. If this computer already runs the same or a newer version than the newest owned release, no owned installer is offered.

Actions you may see

  • Restart and install appears after an in-app update has downloaded and is ready. In-app installation is available only in packaged macOS and Windows builds when the required update file is published.
  • Download installer opens the normal installer in your browser. The app checks again first and requests a fresh, short-lived download link.
  • Renew licensed updates appears when a newer published release is outside the license's owned updates window.

Linux uses Download installer only. TechDash detects whether this installation needs a .deb or .rpm package and does not apply Linux updates in the app.

Automatic checks

Installed TechDash builds check automatically about once every 24 hours while updates are included. After the updates term ends, automatic checks run about every seven days. TechDash also checks on launch when a check is due.

An ended updates term does not lock TechDash or stop monitoring. It changes access only to releases published after the entitlement date.

If the check does not complete

Confirm that normal HTTPS websites load and complete any Wi-Fi sign-in in a browser. Then select Check for updates again later. Temporary network errors, rate limits, invalid server responses, and update-server failures appear as Could not reach the update server and do not affect the active license.
