Fix update checks and unavailable installers
Diagnose update-server errors, entitlement limits, and missing platform files.

The Check for Updates card can identify a newer release without offering a download. TechDash separately checks service access, license ownership, and matching installer availability.
Open Settings, find Check for Updates, and select Check for updates. Note the versions, badge, message, and available actions.
Could not reach the update server
Could not reach the update server means TechDash could not obtain or trust a current result.
- Confirm the computer has a stable, non-captive connection.
- If you are on public Wi-Fi, open a browser and complete its sign-in page.
- Confirm that ordinary HTTPS websites load.
- If a VPN, firewall, DNS filter, or organisation policy is active, check whether it permits HTTPS access to TechDash services.
- Avoid repeated checks if the service has asked TechDash to wait.
- Select Check for updates again later.
A temporary failure does not lock TechDash or stop monitoring. A later successful check restores the current result.
Latest published is newer, but no download appears
Check Newest installer you own and License updates:
- If the later release was published after your updates and support date, select Renew licensed updates when shown or open techdash.com/renew.
- An owned release still needs a file for this operating system and processor architecture.
- macOS uses a DMG in the browser, and Windows uses a setup executable.
- Linux uses a detected
.debor.rpmand does not apply updates inside the app. - If the installed version is equal to or newer than the newest owned version, no update is offered.
TechDash never offers a downgrade. Latest published can therefore be newer while no action is appropriate for this computer.
Download installer is missing or fails to open
Download installer appears only for a newer owned version with a matching browser installer. It requests a fresh, short-lived link each time.
If no browser opens:
- Check whether the browser blocked a pop-up, external link, or automatic download.
- Confirm that TechDash is allowed to open links in the default browser.
- Return to Settings, find Check for Updates, and select Check for updates.
- Confirm Download installer is still present.
- Select it again to request a fresh link.
Do not bookmark or share the URL. If it expires, request another. If the action disappears, review ownership and platform availability.
The browser blocks or cannot save the file
Use the browser's downloads list to inspect the reason. Confirm that it can save to a writable folder, disk space is available, and antivirus or organisation policy did not block the file. Request a fresh download instead of retrying an expired URL.
Do not bypass a security warning for an installer from an unexpected source. TechDash update downloads are opened through the official update flow. If a managed computer blocks them, provide the exact warning and filename to your administrator.
Restart and install is missing
Restart and install appears only after a valid in-app file has downloaded. It is absent while downloading, after failure, when only a browser installer exists, on Linux, and in an unpackaged development copy.
Use Download installer when available. Quitting TechDash does not apply a pending in-app update. Installation starts only when you select Restart and install.
A renewal does not show the release
After renewing, select Check for updates. The result can show the renewed date and installer before License updates changes at the next license validation. If the renewed date appears without a download action, a matching installer may not be published yet.
The installer downloaded but did not run
Download installer only opens the browser download. TechDash does not run that file automatically.
- macOS: Open the DMG from Downloads, then copy TechDash to Applications. If macOS warns or blocks the app, verify the download source and record the exact warning. Do not bypass a warning for an unexpected file.
- Windows: Run the TechDash setup executable from Downloads. If Windows or organisation policy blocks it, verify the source and filename, then ask an administrator if installation approval is required.
- Linux: Open the downloaded
.debor.rpmwith your distribution's normal software installer. Choose the offered package rather than converting it. If installation needs administrator approval, use the normal approval process for your computer.
The expected result is that the installer completes and the reopened app shows the newer Current version. If it does not, reopen TechDash, run Check for updates, and note the version and exact operating-system error.
Get more help
If the problem continues, open Help & Support and use the support options available there. Include Current version, Latest published, operating system, processor architecture, installer filename, and the exact error. Do not include the full license key or a short-lived download URL.
