Search and filter your website portfolio

Find websites by name, hostname, or wildcard pattern.

Use Search on Websites to narrow the visible cards by display name or hostname. Search is local and immediate: it does not contact a website, run a check, or discover new sites.

Search the portfolio

  1. Open Websites.
  2. Enter all or part of a display name or hostname in Search.
  3. Review the cards as the list updates.
  4. Select a card to open that website's overview.

Search is not case-sensitive. Without wildcard characters, TechDash automatically treats the text as a contains search. For example:

  • client matches a website named Client Store.
  • shop matches shop.example.com.
  • example.co matches any stored name or hostname containing that text.

Clear Search to show the complete portfolio again. The filter is only a view; hidden cards are not paused, changed, or deleted.

Use wildcards

Use wildcard characters when the position or number of characters matters:

  • * matches any number of characters, including none.
  • ? matches exactly one character.

Examples:

  • *.com finds hostnames ending in .com.
  • shop* finds names or hostnames that begin with shop.
  • *client* finds values containing client.
  • store?.example.com matches store1.example.com but not store12.example.com.

When a query contains * or ?, TechDash matches the complete name or hostname against that pattern. Without either character, it adds the equivalent of * before and after your text.

Punctuation other than * and ? is treated literally. A dot in *.co.uk, for example, matches a dot rather than any character.

Search renamed websites

TechDash checks each card twice: once against its display name and once against its hostname. Renaming store.example.com to Client Ecommerce therefore lets you find it with either client or store.example.com.

This is useful in an agency portfolio where customer-facing names differ from technical domains. Use Edit Website to add a clearer Website name without losing hostname search.

No matching websites

If TechDash shows No matching websites, no stored display name or hostname matches the current text or wildcard.

Try the following:

  1. Remove some characters and search for a shorter hostname fragment.
  2. Check whether a wildcard anchors the pattern too narrowly. shop* only matches values beginning with shop; use *shop* to match it anywhere.
  3. Replace ? with * if the unknown section can contain more than one character.
  4. Clear the field to confirm the website still exists in the portfolio.
  5. If the website is not present, select Add website. Typing an address into Search never creates a website.

What search does not filter

Portfolio search does not currently filter by pause state, incident severity, check frequency, Search Console connection, or page URL. Open a website to search and filter its Monitored Pages, or use the Incidents and Health Report views for issue-focused work.

Verify the result

Check both lines on a matching card: the display name is shown above the hostname. This helps confirm that a broad search found the intended website rather than another card with a similar client name. Open the card to verify its overview when the distinction is still unclear.

A common confusion is treating spaces as separate search terms. TechDash matches the complete text you enter as one pattern; it does not require individual words independently. If client store finds nothing, try client, store, or a hostname fragment. Search also changes only the cards currently displayed. Clearing the field is the quickest verification that no website was removed or paused.

If a stored display name or hostname still fails to match its exact text after clearing and re-entering Search, open Help & Support. Include the TechDash version, operating system, exact query, expected display name and hostname, whether wildcards were used, and screenshots before and after clearing the field.
